Abstract

After a lifetime of running from her mother’s fears, Lorelei discovers the ocean for herself during a summer vacation. She doesn’t understand the pull she feels toward the sea. Everything about it, from the whispering melody that plays over the waves to the persistent wind that befriends her, captivates her into the Pacific’s thrall. Is it the wind that calls her, or the strange man who sits at the edge of the tide? This is a story about the fantastic intruding on the everyday world. In this modern day fairytale, wonder and imagination create a world where mermaids exist and magic is tinged with the taste of sea air.
