Abstract
As long as it is necessary for parents to work outside the home, there will be a need for school-age care. What can we do to make it a meaningful, enjoyable, and exciting experience for the children? We can start with the environment. There is more to designing a quality environment than filling a room with toys and furniture. Knowledge and understanding of school- age children's developmental levels, of the basic principles of building design and room arrangements and the messages the environments sends are all part of creating a quality school- age care environment.
