Abstract
Defining grand-relationships by identifying self meanings has increased our understanding of what is fundamental to grand-relationships. This study described the meanings grandparents place on the grandparent role in every day language. A grandparent role should be purposeful; they should happily spend time with the grandchildren, teaching, playing, and lead them to appreciate what is of value in life. Grandparents may bring about closer relationships with their grandchildren by evaluating their self meanings.
