Abstract
Early childhood has been recognized as the most important period in the area of literacy development. While much of the focus has been on children in the preschool years, the foundation for literacy begins as early as birth. There are many skills and strategies which caregivers can use to promote growth in literacy with infants and toddlers. In providing our youngest children with a strong literacy base we give them the tools to continue on in all areas of academic success.
