Abstract

School-age care directly impacts children, youth, families, communities and society. The National School-Age Care Alliance developed quality standards with the National Institute on Out- of-School Time using the ASQ: Assessing School-Age Care Quality, to provide a self-study for improvement and accreditation. Programs that fulfill the quality standards will have a common foundation to support continued improvement in the school-age profession. Participants in school-age programs can view how the process of reflection and improvement occurs using the ASQ quality standards in this publication. Comparison results of participants will demonstrate how information from the self-study can be used to support school-age staff to be facilitators of positive development for children and youth during their out-of- school time.
