Abstract
The purpose of this project is to provide information that will help caregivers, parents and children to understand the problems caused by staff turnover in an early childhood care center. This document will describe the effects of staff turnover on young children, and examine the possibilities for change in the child care system. Background information and observation will be examined in an effort to assist in the awareness of staff turnover, staff retention in childcare, along with the awareness of the related effects on children. Because transitions from one care provider to another can be so traumatic, information for parents can also benefit remaining staff and new staff members. With the proper knowledge of the causes and effects of caregiver transitions, a consistent method for dealing with this problem can be developed.
