Abstract
This thesis is concerned with the mechanics of Roman Catholicism, using the skewed theologies and spoiled prophets in eight short stories by Flannery O’Connor. In the stories discussed, the skewed theologies and spoiled prophets lead complacent lives which necessitate the use of violence, whether committed by them, suffered, or witnessed in order for them to realize their faults and bring them closer to God. The short stories discussed themselves are in chronological order in order to give the reader a sense of the ways in which her writing developed throughout her life.
