Abstract

This purpose of this study was to better understand how watching reality television with sexual and violent themes affects viewers’ perceptions of violence and sexuality. Participants of this study were asked to watch an episode of the Jerry Springer Show and then complete a survey immediately after. A control group was asked to take the survey without watching an episode of the Jerry Springer Show. The data from this study supported a link between watching violent television and perceiving more violence, but did not support a link between watching sexual content on the television and perceiving more sexuality.
