Abstract
This thesis examines the unique issues of African American Social Service and Educational Institutions (AASSEI's) and develops and Afrocentric orientation towards addressing those issues. The Council of Sages, "Village Organization Award," was thus created as a strategy to improve the function quality of AASSEI's as well as build community. This gives AASSEI's a higher standard for which to reach by practicing the African concept of Sankofa--the idea of going back to your roots before you can go forward.
