Abstract
The preponderance of children adopted from Russia come from orphanages. Institutionalization is another factor that presents special challenges for both the child and the adoptive parents. The affects of institutionalization and the cultural issues that accompany adoptions from Russia can cause great stress if the family is not properly prepared. This paper presents an educational program for parents before they adopt from Russia so that they will have the resources needed to make adoption from Russia a healthy and positive experience for their entire family.
