Abstract
Principles of adult education and relevant changes in American Christianity can be used to improve the St Paul Lutheran Church Sunday morning adult Bible study. Both principles of adult education and changes in American Christianity point to greater involvement of the learner. Focus on the learner is key. Use of a published Bible study guide as the main text gives the pastor time to develop applicable and appropriate independent learning activities. Learning activities that are incorporated into the study have to fit learners' individual interests and abilities. Available, trusted religious reference materials such as a Catechism give learners confidence to do independent study. Feedback is important.
