Abstract
Children in elementary school need to have opportunities to explore and enjoy practicing newly learned literacy skills through daily play. Literacy is an important skill needed throughout a lifetime. Literacy and play make a good fit for children of all ages. School age programs, offering care before and after school can offer these experiences in which children can play, have fun and learn in a relaxing environment when school is out.
