Abstract
The purpose of this project is for the author to design a time study method to be used in the patrol division of the Apple Valley Police Department. The author has chosen Option 1 for this project. Recent population growth has caused the Police Department to lag behind in hiring. Traditionally, staffing needs have been based on a ratio of having 1 officer per 1,000 residents. This ratio however has never been an accepted standard. The ratio is simply an average which can be used as a guideline for making staffing decisions. Many individual policing factors exist in every community. The Apple Valley Police Department wishes to be in a position where workload determines staffing needs.
