Abstract
Childhood and adolescent obesity have reached epidemic levels in the United States, currently affecting about 17% of children. (Sanyaolu et al., 2019). According to Sanyaolu et al. (2019), this percentage has tripled over the past three decades. It has been projected that by 2030 obesity levels could be as high as 50-80% in the United States (Ahmad et al., 2010). This brochure will define childhood obesity, identify potential causes, and discuss how to prevent it. Multiple resources will also be provided where additional information or assistance with childhood obesity can be located. This brochure should provide a basic understanding of childhood obesity and the steps to take at any point in a child’s life. Childhood obesity prevention starts with the parents or guardians. It is never too late to help a child enjoy a longer, healthier life.
