Abstract
Immigration occurs worldwide, yet immigrants continue to be stigmatized. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Law was written with the intention of protecting all human beings. Yet violations against human rights constantly occur and go unpunished. In theory, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights should protect all human beings, yet often immigrants’, specifically undocumented immigrants’, rights are violated due to their societal status. The violations of human rights, specifically governments violating the human rights of undocumented immigrants and migrants, are often overlooked even in developed or Western countries, which claim not to engage in these sorts of crimes.
This research will specifically focus on the practices of the United States and the European Union towards undocumented immigrants/migrants and the framework that these countries use to govern these groups. To conclude this research project, the best practices of both the United States and the European Union will be presented to highlight both the human rights violations against undocumented immigrants/migrants and the organizations working towards ameliorating the mistreatment of this population. My hope is that this research can help the international community, international development agencies, and human rights organizations interested in fighting for the rights of undocumented immigrants/migrants in order to raise awareness and demonstrate the urgency to correct human rights violations against this population.
