What Is the Effect of Empowerment on Program Aides?

Abstract

School-Age Care is the vehicle in which many of the nation's children are being cared for while their parents are at work. The responsibilities of this profession are great and society must make every effort to provide the children with the best possible care.

This research project was intended to see how empowerment would effect the School-Age Care program aides who work directly with the children. The empowerment process provided a direct communication link between the School-Age Care coordinator (management) and the program aides, giving them work-related information firsthand. This process gave the program aides the opportunity to be included in the information loop rather than hearing work-related information from someone other than management.
