The Comparison Between the Amount of Prekindergarten Experience in Kindergarten Readiness
The difference between the amount of prekindergarten experience on kindergarten readiness was examined in this study. The subjects were twenty-two students enrolled in kindergarten at a small Christian elementary school in North St. Paul, Minnesota. The students were divided into three groups: those who attended the two half days a week prekindergarten program at the same elementary school as the kindergarten, those who attended the three half days per week prekindergarten program at the same elementary school as the kindergarten, and those who did not attend a prekindergarten program, or did not attend the same prekindergarten program at the elementary school as the kindergarten. The ABC Inventory-Extended Test was administered during the second week of September, and the last week of January to all kindergarten students. Results were analyzed to determine whether there was a significant difference in the readiness levels of the students, and whether the level of differences changed as the year progressed. A questionnaire was also given to each family to determine the subject's family and educational background.
