Abstract

The purpose of this case study was an in-depth investigation to determine the background, environment, and characteristics of an elementary-aged boy who has been diagnosed as attention deficit disordered (ADD) without hyperactivity and with an overanxious disorder. Mathematics was the main instructional focus in this case study. A primary purpose was personalized instruction which employed strategies that have been shown to help ADD students succeed and determine which strategies worked effectively for the subject. Results indicated that the subject experienced academic success in mathematics. These results suggest that math strategies which take into account behavioral characteristics of ADD students be employed. Additional educational interventions and management techniques for working with ADD children are given.
