Sprawled out on the rug in RéShawn Brown's class, 22 kindergartners at Faubion School swiped at the screens of their iPads.

One student sat cross-legged and read aloud to "Green Eggs and Ham," while another lay on her stomach listening to a narration of "Cat in the Hat." Brown wove her way through the children, explaining the program to some students or helping others to sound out words.
